Whether you've just moved to Melbourne, you're re-entering the soccer scene after a hiatus, or maybe looking to start up a new sport, this is the guide for you.

Depending on what level you're wanting to play and how much time you have on your hands, there are a wide variety of opportunities (and they're still growing yay!) for women's soccer in Melbourne. This guide will walk you through how, where, and what level you can play women’s soccer across Melbourne this Winter 2025.

⚽ First Up: Why Play?

Soccer is more than just fitness — it's community, connection, stress relief after work, and joy in movement. If you're reading this, chances are you're already craving that. So let’s get you back on the pitch.

🔍Which Kind of Soccer Suits You?

1. Casual, Social Soccer (No commitment, just fun)

If you want to play without the pressure of a full season or weeknight trainings, social soccer is a perfect way to get active, meet people, and have fun.

Where to play:
  • Melbourne Social Soccer

  • Just Play App - One Game Option– One-off casual games of mixed-league futsal you can book into. Find out more here.

  • GO Soccer Mums (Football Victoria) – For women or gender-diverse people can learn basic football skills in a no-pressure environment.
    • There are various GoSoccer Mums programs dotted around Melbourne at different clubs. Use the link above to find your closest. Find out more here.

  • Search on Meetup for local casual soccer meetups near you.

2. Semi-Structured Soccer (Play matches regularly, no trainings)

If you want to play matches in a league structure but without the full commitment of club soccer, this is perfect for you. Usually involves a futsal, 5-a-side or 7-a-side format and played on smaller fields/courts, is relaxed, but still competitive.

How to play:
  1. FV Women's Football Sevens - for women 30+, social 7-a-side competition.
    • Two regions - North West & South East leagues

    • Check out Go Football website for more info on where, when and how much.

  2. FV Go Fives - enter as a team, individual (FV will assign you a team) or sign up for notifications to fill-in.

Football Victoria’s State League Levels (check it out below):
  • NPL/VPL Women – Top-level, very competitive.
  • State Leagues 1–5 – Varied levels for different abilities.

I definitely found it daunting when I started looking at ways to get back into soccer. I found it difficult navigating the different clubs, and finding information on local clubs/opportunities to get involved. The prospect of joining a club after years of not playing was terrifying. But since getting back into sport and soccer, it's completely changed my outlook on the week, and has given me a sense of community connection that can be hard when you move to a new area.

I hope this post has been helpful with helping you get started and getting out there again!
